Scholarship Application for 2009-2010 available!

 

The WV SWCS Chapter plans to offer two scholarships for students pursuing a degree in the areas of soils or plants sciences.  Applications are now available.  Anyone interested should contact Dr. Jeff Skousen at jskousen@wvu.edu  for more information or to receive an application.  Guidelines and applications are also being sent to all colleges and university in the state requesting applications.  If you know of a student that could use this assistance please connect them with Dr. Skousen!  The deadline for 2009 scholarships is May 31,2009.

 

Matthew Murphy is from Calhoun County, WV.  He attended Glenville State College and received his Associates of Science in Environmental Technology.  He is now attending Oregon State University to obtain his Bachelors of Science.  He is a general agriculture student with a 3.4 GPA for 158 credit hours.  He has worked as a soil conservation intern with Natural Resources Conservation Service and wants to be a soil conservationist after completing his degree.  He is currently a member of our chapter.

 

Samantha Spencer is an undergraduate student at West Virginia University with a major in Agroecology and minors in soil science and environmental protection.  She has a GPA of 3.8 for a total of 59 credit hours.  She grew up in western Maryland and she attended Potomac State College where her interest in soils began.  She was a FFA Chapter president and captain of the Envirothon team.  She transferred to WVU and she is serving as a WVU resident assistant. 

Laura DePriest is a student at Alderson-Broaddus College who is majoring in Biology.  She has a 3.4 GPA for 70 credit hours.  She is from Greenbrier County, WV.  At Alderson-Broaddus College, she is a member of the Environmental Science Club and hopes to go to graduate school.  Her goal is to work for the Farm Service Agency once her degree is completed.
